Re: Battlefield 3 - prelaunch excitement

THE BUZZ: Alan Kertz, Senior Gameplay Designer at DICE, has again took to Twitter and revealed a few new details regarding Battlefield 3.
Firstly, he revealed that the short period of immunity that a player receives after respawning has been removed:
“It’s removed as soon as the player gains control of his player and moves shoots or aims,” so basically you have to be extra careful when respawning.
Secondly, he mentioned that the game will not include customizable red dot sights unless the gun or scope does in real life:
“The Kobra can have 4 sight settings, a dot, a dot and chevron, the crosshairs and just a chevron. [DICE doesn't] have an interface for sight customization. Maybe next game.”
Finally it was said that when lasers were used then hip fire accuracy would be increased.
“Lasers increase hip fire accuracy. If you’re bipod is deployed, it will have little effect. If you zoom, it has none.”
EGM’s TAKE: The removal of spawn immunity could annoy a few fans but will also make the game fairer when enemies spawn in front of you off their teammates.

THE BUZZ: Battlefield 3 core gameplay designer Alan Kertz—aka Demize99—has been a fountain of information when it comes to news, details, and updates on Battlefield 3. After a short break, that fountain is flowing again, so here’s some of his most recent revelations.
When asked if there are plans to display actual numerical damage values of guns either in-game or on Battlelog: “No plans.”
When asked if there will be a tracer dart gun in Battlefield 3: “No Tracer Dart Gun I think you might like some of our other toys though.”
When asked if there’s a server-side option to disable main base protection: “Fraid not.”
When asked if the random white screen flashes are fixed on the PS3 version: “Fixed”
When asked at what range snipers will be able to do one-hit kills: “In hardcore? About 50m, depends on the rifle, and only with bolts.”
When asked if there are performance optimizations in the final version versus the beta: “Plently.”
When asked if helicopter gunners can have different weapons, or if only the pilot’s loadout matters: “Gunners get their own loadouts.”
When asked if fences will be fully destructible in the final version (where as the beta has issues with this): “Fixed”
When asked if there will be improvements made to the mini map: “Yes, the clarity has been greatly enhanced.”
When asked to confirm that Hardcore has reduced health: “60% of normal”
When asked about the headshot multiplier: “About 2x for most guns, slightly higher for higher calibers.”
When asked if bushes will still “catch” grenades like they did in the beta: “Fixed”

HOLY FUCK...details on the MP maps...(link)

The 9 multiplayer maps in Battlefield 3 offer every style of gameplay from dense urban combat to all-out vehicle warfare on vast landscapes. Read on for the design ideas behind the multiplayer maps in Battlefield 3, straight from Niklas Åstrand, one of the level designers at DICE. The remaining maps will be revealed here on the blog tomorrow.

Looking good so far, different maps with different focuses. A nice touch, Metro can still go fuck itself though lol

Basejumping FTW! And yes, Metro can eat a dick. I really am liking the map variety and focus. And SCALE...Firestorm is roughly 3x the size of Atacama.

6x + extended mags + slugs + DAO-12 (Striker) = trollathon

Also, basejumping into a map? I think that's pure adrenaline rushing to my dong.

That actuallys sounds good except for the Glock 17 part. Switch the a surpressed G18 (selector switch bitches) and we're good.

With the sheer amount of customization, there is no one great kit...it's all in the hands of the user. All your loadouts won't mean shit, because there will always be some asshole with one he's better with.
