Re: Euro 2012
I will be in my homeland for the Euro 2012. Megastoked to say the least. We have tickets for a Quarter final game in Gdansk. The PGE Arena is huge. Was there for the opening game of it (Lechia Gdansk vs Cracovia). Beautiful stadium.

Re: Euro 2012
Too early to call yet...Spain isn't as sharp as they ought to be, but they probably have the best shot. Germany's always a threat, but there hasn't been any young big names coming through since Ozil and Khedira. Italy and France should clusterfuckimplode as usual. England...nope. It's the same teams doing the same things, and there are no real dark horse contenders except MAYBE Russia. Their domestic league has really come on strong in the past few years, and they are developing a lot of young guys that way. But fuck 'em, they're Russians. As soon as they start believing in themselves their greed and egos get in the way, and they get fat and lazy and complain a lot. I guess that leaves the usual bridesmaids...Holland and Portugal as the best of the "Not Spain or Germany" teams...there will be no Greece or other "who the fuck are these guys?" world-beaters this time around.
Alex, that's awesome! I would love to go to a big tourney some year like the WC, Euros, or even just a great Champion's League matchup.

Re: Euro 2012
yea fuck the russians lol, I don't really follow that side of the world but they haven't been a threat since the cold war
holland put on a great show last time at the WC so I expect something again this time around, and yes, you never know how the Germans are gonna play, those guys are in the finals every time man.
Italians need to retire their entire team, seriously at the WC they looked like all big stars, all really had too much time with the ball.
France, oh France, what happened last time? lol well hope they at least stick around this time
As for England, I don't think they'll do bad, Fabio Capello just needs to wise up, he's a good team on his hands. And the same thing goes for Portugal, bunch or great players, but this new coach (use to be at Sporting Lisbon, my team) needs to get a good feel for it. He's very young but he did a great job with Sporting and he has a very different style, made huge modifications on the line up soon as he got there and he's been trying new things every match.
So I also have hopes for my own team, but like every other time, I know Portugal goes in with great payers and a huge chance for disappointment.
Spain is a big threat since they won the last WC. Their line up is incredible, their coach is seasoned and they know what they're doing. So I think it's too early as well but we all know who the big contenders are.
Playing in the East will def make things interesting since most play in the West where it's a bit warmer.

^Netherlands, Germany and Portugal, that's a tough one

Italy is with Spain
England with France
Group A I'd say Russia and maybe Greece?

Re: Euro 2012
Three tough groups, one who gives a fuck. I'd say Czech Rep., Netherlands, Spain, and probably England, but D is a toss-up. Neither France nor England are all that great and the other two are meh. Groups B and D are amazing...the winner is coming from either one but the group stage will be epic.

Re: Euro 2012
A close friend of mine just got called by Vancouver Whitecaps for junior training. He's a fantastic player and will most likely be playing for them once he turns 18. I have a feeling he will also be on team Canada. Name is Mitchell O'Brien. He's gonna be big!

Engerlund? I don't know...tough draw, but I think it's better than if you had an easy group...England gets a little overconfident and complacent in easier groups, historically. Coming out of the gate against France will have the lads focused.
Also, Alex - I'm friends on Facebook with Joe Cannon. I loved him when he was with the Earthquakes, and he's a San Jose native, like me. When he went to Vancouver he gave away most of his Quakes gear, and I got a game used Cannon home jersey...friggin' sweet. He's a really cool guy, and the only reason why I'm a 'Caps fan. It's hard though, because both San Jose and Seattle have my loyalties. I'll keep my eye out for your buddy...wish him luck!

I would think we'd get through that group no probs. But as always, it's the head 2 heads we always loose the plot on.
I've given up on the international team anyway, have done for a few years now. I still watch it. But i don't get mad anymore. No matter who's in charge or what players we have in the starting 11, we just seem to look so lacklustre. I think it's become and English trait over the years.

Re: Euro 2012
This is true...I've been following them since Italia '90, and in all that time there has never been an inspired performance...no passion, no commitment, and no real competition for places. I think part of the problem is that there just isn't a pool of great young players to choose from, so the entrenched guys like Lampard and Terry and Rio and Gerrard just don't feel pressured to perform. That's not to say that guys like Gerrard or Terry are not fiery competitors...I mean, look at their passion at club level, but there's only Cleverley and Smalling and Wilshire currently in the category of "rising starlets". Compare that to Spain or Holland, who ALWAYS have at least a dozen young guys hammering at the door of first team places...

Re: Euro 2012
Deffo agree there.
I suppose you can bring up the tired old argument that because the prem is flooded with foreign talent the English youth players working their way up from the u-21's & reserves have a harder time getting noticed these days but for me, the fact that we have so many different nationalities playing in the prem is the reason i love watching the matches week in, week out.
Every country trains their youths differently, all bringing seperate abilities and skills that another one hasn't got. You mix them together the right way and you've got yourself a fucking entertaining team to watch on a Saturday afternoon.
I mean, there's the odd exception. You've got Wellbeck @ United breaking through into the first team now and Joe Hart at Man City who started off in league two a few years back. But it certainly ain't like what it was waaaay back when. Shit, even in the 90's it was a lot easier.
I think the press has a lot to answer for as well though. Any opportunity to slate a player and their on it like flies on shit. Tabloids are horrible now, it's all about who can get the biggest scoops and who can cause the biggest outcry. Front page and back.
That being said, i hate John Terry with a passion. Horrible little man. I'd love to dance on his face with a pair of heavy boots

Re: Euro 2012
Yeah, I agree about the foreign players...the Prem is so much better for the influx in the past ten-fifteen years. Ok, SOME teams are a little over the top, like the Arsenal team a few years back, but c'mon...what wasn't to love about Bergkamp and Henry and Pires? Of the current crop, guys like Suarez and Balotelli and Van Persie and Bale (if you count the Welsh as foreigners, lol) are just so much fun to watch every week. Suarez, especially, being a Liverpool supporter, lol.
And I agree about Terry too...that guy is a prick. I fucking hate Chelsea anyway, and he and Cashley Hole make it so easy, lol. Chelsea, & Man Utd...when thos two play I'm always hoping for the earth to open up and swallow them whole. Just the thought of Gary Neville's face makes my lip curl.

Re: Euro 2012
Oh fuck yeah man!
LOVED watching Le Arse back then. Bergkamp was prolly one of my fav strikers ever to play in the prem. So intelligent in what he done.
And the Man U team of 99. What a year!
Yeah Wales isn't part of the UK (not to me anyway). I refuse to accept that they are lol.
I love being a neutral when it comes to the Prem. That way you can enjoy all the football being played by whatever team. Feelsgoodman.jpg.
But then i have to go back to reality and watch my beloved CPFC draw every fucking game (apart from yesterday, that was a pleasant surprise).

Re: Euro 2012
Yup...Bergkamp is definitely my favorite foreign Prem player of all time. He was such a cultured and elegant player. Never really an Arsenal supporter, but my god did they play some beautiful football.
And...Crystal Palace? Lol...that's funny...they were instrumental in both me being a fan of football, and also the genesis of my hatred for Man U. In 1990 I was in Israel for four months, and was one of only a couple of Americans in a group of tons of English people. My best buddy was from Walthamstow, and was a huge Spurs supporter (Yiiiidddd-ooooo, lol...as were we all). The very first game I ever watched was the FA Cup final...3-3 Palace and United. The replay ended up 1-0 United on a late goal, and I remember absolutely HATING them for it. Palace played their hearts out, and United, well...they played so smugly and dirty, and although I knew nothing about them at the time, I just KNEW that I'd never like anything about them. The next season I started following Liverpool for some random reason and that stuck too...so the Manc Scum hatred grew naturally from that FA Cup final on...
Still have a soft spot for Palace,

Re: Euro 2012
haha yeah man! EAGLESSSSSSS!
Been supporting them since i was 11. was a season ticket in the holmesdale lower for 3 years including the glorious season of 04/05! It's been a chore for the past few years but we're finally stable and actually building instead of hanging on by our fingertips .
Liverpool fan ey? hmmmm not bad.
King Kenny coming back to revive the scousers. He seems a lot more moany these days though lol. Well i would be too if i'd spent 34mil on Carrol
I've always had an on-off love of man u though. I think it was watching peter schmeichel as a kid that did it. I used to love playing goalie at school and he was probably one of my first idols. Plus that champs league final in 99 was amazing. I was only 9 but i can still remember damn near everything that happened lol.
