Metal?

Post by KANNAB1S on Mon Jan 30, 2012 2:59 pm

So who here is into metal? Death Metal, Heavy Metal, Black Metal, Metalcore, mainstream metal, and all the rest of the flavors. And no Monkey, Nickelback is not metal.

Who do you like/hate? I have a pretty big music collection but always looking for a band I haven't heard or seen live yet.

Fuck...I just had a huge list of bands, and my browser crashed...fuckityfuck. Ok, in no particular order, just stuff I have in my collection and bands I love:
At the Gates, The Haunted, Borknagar, In Flames, Finntroll, Asunder, Opeth, Katatonia, Cradle of Filth, Cathedral, Earthride, Deadbird, Alabama Thunderpussy, Rwake, Anathema, Paradise Lost, Edge of Sanity, Bloodbath, Amon Amarth, Burnt By the Sun, Boris, Sunn O))), Fu Manchu, Kyuss, Greenhouse Effect, Children of Bodom, Corrosion of Conformity, Darkthrone, Behemoth, Graves at Sea, Kalmah, Mar de Grises, Nightrage, Acid Bath, SOAD, The Crown, Dillinger Escape Plan, The Sword, Withering, Yob...and of course, the greats, like Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Scorpions, Quiet Riot...all that awesome 80's metal I grew up with. So, lots of Doom, Swedish Death, Melodic DM, Stoner, and Southern (for lack of a better name) metals...indeed.

And not one fuck given for metalcore. Anything with "core" in the name tends to be shit, regardless of what comes before it. Ditto for Nickelback. And I seem to recall lauging my ass off at some band you liked that you considered metal that was really shitty...can't remember who, but it was back in the [CoF] days. I want to say Avenged Sevenfold, but I don't think you're that gay Kanni.

Well, if we're going there, I really like Iridium too, but my fave has to be Rhodium. Six times more valuable than platinum, really shiny, and I have several vintage razors that are rhodium plated...

HAHAHA I like tons of shitty music and just might be that gay, but not an Avenged Sevenfold fan. Nice to see Acid Bath get a mention!! A few in there I haven't heard and will check out for sure.

a few of my favorites at the moment: Meshuggah, Sylosis, Black Dahlia Murder, Darkest Hour, Aborted, Between the Buried and Me, Carnifex, Despised Icon, Machinemade God, Revocation, The Red Chord, Machinehead, As Blood Runs Black, Dead To The World (shameless plug).

Those are a few of the new bands I have been jamming recently, I like the new "math metal" kinda stuff, and it's fun as hell to play.

Yeah, Meshuggah is really good...technical as hell...MATH, MOTHERFUCKER! Acid Bath is great! I forgot to mention Porcupine Tree...not really "metal", but on that Opeth level of consistently excellent. And then there's these guys...GREAT! The bass player is a little sloppy/fruity, but the guitar shredding from 2:49 onward is excellent:

...you never did send me a CD, fucker...

Oh that vid is the worst!! If you like us on facebook you can download the most recent CD release we did for free, those songs are MUCH better IMO. And we just got out of the studio a few weeks back and will release a few new songs soon, with a few well known guest appearances from some well known bands... And Monkey not sure if you remember Chris (inhumane), he has been replaced.

I'm more into progressive/instrumental metal more than anything. Some bands to name: Dream Theater, Between the Buried and Me, Tool, and Animals as Leaders. I don't feel like posting my entire collection.

I used o listen to a lot of that back in high school, still do on a nice Saturday morning. Also Chevelle, SOAD, Sepultura and some stuff I don't even remember. I never really got into the whole Lamb of God Scene though they had a song or two that I liked (as did Laguna Coil) but I never really digged the whole scream thing. And I don't think that playing a cord at supersonic speeds makes it sound any better either.

Monkey i knew i fell in love with you for a reason <3

I love metal. I had it all when i was a kid. Long black hair, leather jacket (which still fits FYI), the chain stolen from a park's lock on my jeans. ahhhhh happy days.

atm on my media player i have things ranging from this;

to this;

aaaaaaaand to this;

and finally, to this;

I remember starting off listening to stuff like Weezer. Then onto metallica, then machinehead/slipknot and then finally onto the stuff where you can't make out what they're saying. You may say it's not music but i like it.

I would write a list of the bands that i listen to frequently but i'd be here all day and still forget some.

I love you too...homo intended. I'd have commented on your Vader avatar earlier, but battlelog on my tablet sucks balls. Cool

Never really into gore/grindcore...too much grunting and growling and too fast and lacking melody. Some of the things that draw me to different bands are not just the technical aspects (besides just speed...melody, dual leads, awesome drummers, heavy riffs, tempo changes, complicated arrangements, etc.) but the lyrical content and emotions. I dont take the heaviness as an angry or negative thing, more of an outpouring of raw emotion...sometimes its sadness or loss, other times despair or frustration. Along with that emotional content you need good lyrics to help convey it, and grindcore type stuff to me is just a joke. Not that it doesn't have a place...some of that stuff is amazingly complex lyrically but I mean joke in the sense that the bands themselves are not serious...they are just being extreme and shocking. Same goes for satanic stuff and a lot of black metal. Thats why i listen to a lot of doom and heavy slow downtuned stuff nowadays...there is a weird comfort in sadness and lonliness, lol. The first time I set aside preconseived notions about metal and really took it seriously was reading along with At the Gates...great stuff...

But Death...hell yes. Rammstein I love too, but to me they aren't really metal...more of a hard metalish Techno...there are lots of German bands with that sound...Eisbrecher, Die Krupps, .wumpscut. etc. All good.

Before metal I was a punk...high school on into adulthood...but I did the whole leather and chains and spikes thing too, during my punk and industrial phases. I used to have a metal plate from my leg (motorcycle accident...long story) as a zipper pull on my leather...that's pretty fucking metal, lol.

i completely see what you're saying dude. First band that i consider 'whaargarbl music' was cannibal corpse, introduced to me by an old friend when i was about 15. And i basically changed my whole outlook on the genre. I was fucking hooked and those down tuned guitars and fast drums(basically everything that turns you away from it lol). Jesus christ every time i listen to hammer smashed face to this day i still get my WHAAAARGARBL on Laughing Laughing

I know it's not to everyone's taste for obvious reasons but seriously, i CANNOT get enough of those blast beats and epic fiddly dee da guitar solos tuned down. MA GAWD

i never really got into black metal and the other sub genres surrounding that. Just never got the whole vibe of what was being put out there.

And as for Vader, well. They are the best band. EVER. 100% truth, backed by science and angels. Close second would prolly be slayer. But my god Vader have something that just fucks my head with every album. Awesome band!

Had the chance to see them back in 05 too in Camden but ended up getting stoned instead Sad
Regret it to this day SadSadSadSadSad

Although i'm not much into the more melodic metal i suppose the closest i've been is liking Strapping Young Lad. A fair few of their tracks have that slowed down tempo and real smooth. like.
Seeing them live was awesome btw. Devin Townsend and his silly hair

And hold on, isn't a metal plate supposed to be INSIDE your leg? plz explain.

Well...when I was 16 I was on the back of my friend's motorcycle, getting a ride home from school. We got hit broadside by a guy going about 50 mph as we were turning onto my street. I ended up with two compound fractures of my right leg (shin and femur) and 57 bone fragments...yes, as in the biggest bone in my body was shattered and sticking out of my leg. I had a rod and screws inserted in my femur, and a plate and eight screws in my shin. When I was out of school a few years later I wanted to go Airborne in the army, but you cant jjoin if you have shit like that in place, so I had them removed. And then I ended up not enlisting anyway...so I had these cool parts left over. My tag used to be "Cyborg" (in katakana) back in my vandal days because of it, lol. Hence the cool zipper pull...

Oh yeah...another bit of HOLY FUCK MONKEY!...they said I might not ever walk right again (which I do) and that it might be at least six to eight months before I would have been able to start walking without crutches...but I was up walking on my own without support in a month. A. Fucking. Month. Like a boss. They told me not to though...incisions still hadn't healed (I had about an eight inch one on my shin, another eight incher on my thigh where they went in to put all the bits back together, and a four inch one on my hip where they drilled into the top of my femur and inserted the 18" rod). The danger wasn't the incisions though...they said my weight could have caused the femur bits to collapse, meaning that my leg would have accordioned and the rod would be pushed up and out of my hip...once they told me that I thought "OK...maybe I can use the crutches", lol.

Like a fukken BAWWWSSSS.

LOL @ them basically saying 'well, you're a little fat. So there's a chance your fatness could collapse your entire leg, you fat man, you'.

I would have given the doctor a slap in the face with one of them crutches whilst moonwalking out of the hospital 2bhFTW.

I usually save this for rare occasions but i think you deserve it with your tales of bad-assery.
