Rooney will be eligible now...his suspension was for their past qualifier plus the first two games. I'm drooling at the thought of Rooney and Carroll up front.

i'd imagine he'd be 1st choice in place of Wellbeck.

Fair play to the guy, that goal was sweeeeeeeeeeet. But Rooney's got more experience at international level. Plus he's more versatile around the last 3rd.

Probably going to be Rooney and Welbeck to start, Carroll off the bench as Plan B. R&W play well together at club level and compliment each other, whereas Carroll brings something different, but requires the rest of the team to play differently for it to work. With the two Manc fuckers, they can play a pressing, attacking style, and can cause chaos by interchanging positions a lot. Carroll is suited to more of a "bomb it into the box to the big fella" style because he's devastating in the air. Rooney and Carroll can work well though, as a big and little combo...Rooney providing pace and movement, Carroll with holding up play, distribution, and of course aerial presence.

Pretty sure Rooney CAN make a big difference, if nothing else other than giving the opposition someone to constantly worry about and track. He will draw defenders to him a lot more than the other guys, opening up space for them, and of course he can score himself from pretty much anywhere.

If, IF Portugal beats Spain we'll be in the finals with Germany. I have my hopes if Nani and Ronaldo play like they did last match, should be a very good match regardless.
Italy and England should also be a very good match, Buffon will need to be in top shape to stop those Rooney shots, they (Italy) have a good midfield but no real strikers aside from maybe Balotelli who plays 15mins each match anyway. I think it will mostly depend on Englands ability to close the defense and keep the ball up front as much as possible.
